Death Valley

We had a great time in Death Valley last week. We took our trailer and were able to get a site with full hook-ups! Yeah! My idea of "camping" is not roughing it. We didn't have television, the internet or phone service, but we didn't suffer. I actually enjoyed it. The kids played and swam, and Charlie and I drank good wine and read!
Lily couldn't wait to "taste the salt." She wasn't a fan as you can see in the above picture.
People think we are crazy for going to Death Valley. Yes, we would be crazy if we went in the middle of the SUMMER, but spring in the desert is beautiful. The mountains are majestic, and the weather is balmy. The landscape of this National Park is so dramatic and varied. If you ever have an opportunity to go, I would recommend it, but don't go when it's 120 degrees. 85 was perfect for us!
The lowest point in the U.S. is in Death Valley....282 feet below sea level. There was a small puddle (the guidebook described it as a "lake." Yeah right!) that had salt formations in it that were unusual.
Charlie and Lily posed in front of this rock because it is so prehistoric looking. Around the bend from this rock are mountains with colorful striations that is completely different from the area pictured above. That is what is so interesting about Death Valley. The landscape varies from mile to mile.
