Mosaic Valley Hike in Death Valley

Our family is "outdoorsy" by default of our vocation, but we aren't big hikers or extreme sports kind of people. We decided to change that with our latest vacation and we took the girls on 2 hikes. The first on Thursday was very short and easy and led to a natural bridge. We decided to take a more strenuous, longer hike on Friday morning. Mosaic Valley is a short drive from where we were staying, and the guide book called it an easy hike, so that's where we went.
The above picture was taken at the beginning of the hike. Lily was hiding her face because of the sun.I carried Grace on the way up (2 miles, 1 and 1/2 hours), and Charlie carried her on the way down. He got the better end of the deal! There were a lot of rocks to scramble over, but we weren't going to give up. He had to help me quite a bit toward the end, but I felt pretty proud of myself when we reached the end of the trail. Lily refused to move at this point. She'd had enough! The terrain was narrow and rocky at some points, but it also widened out into this wash for quite a bit of the walk. By the way, Lily did this the last time we were hiking in Death Valley when she was 2.
We stopped quite often on the way up to let Grace stretch her legs. She walked very well on the uneven terrain and climbed a few rocks too.

The girls did very well, and we really enjoyed ourselves, so we'll be doing the hiking thing again!
